Our Coin Show Special for the next ANDA Coin Show in Sydney is this 1oz silver proof release celebrating the Greater Blue Mountains. The reverse depicts the Three Sisters rock formation from Echo Point in colour, and a Blue Mountains Tree Frog, an inhabitant of the region’s rocky rivers and streams.
The very limited coin (2,500 mintage) will be offered at a special price at the Show.

Diggers returning to Britain from the Victorian gold fields were among those drowned when the steam clipper Royal Charter sank during an unprecedented storm off the Welsh coast in 1859. The ship’s tragic tale and how gold coins and nuggets once belonging to the miners are slowly being retrieved is revealed in this fascinating article well worth reading in the UK’s The Telegraph.
In late October 1859 the Royal Charter was returning to Liverpool from Melbourne. Her complement of about 371 passengers (with a crew of about 112 and some other company employees) included many gold miners, some of whom had struck it rich at the diggings in Australia and were carrying large sums of gold about their persons.
