HM Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s second longest serving monarch, today marks 60 years on the throne.

Princess Elizabeth was in Kenya on her way to tour Australia when she ascended the throne this day, 6th February 1952, on hearing that that her father King George VI was dead.

Today, 85-year old Queen Elizabeth reaffirmed to “dedicate myself anew to your service”.

This Perth Mint commemorative coin was released recently as a way for supporters to celebrate her historic contribution over six decades.

  1. This is a beautiful and fitting coin to a great Lady. Queen Elizabeth is a wonderful person & dedicated Monarch. I’ve always followed the Queen and the Royal Family with enthusiasm.

I have two super Minisheets of Princess Elizabeth & Prince Philip on their honeymoon in Kenya. They are both standing by a large open window in a rather impressive “tree house”.

Captions read: “For the first time in the history of the world a young girl climbed into treetops one day a Princess and she climbed down from the tree the next day, a Queen – God bless her”

Elizabeth ascended the throne this day, 6th February 1952, on hearing that that her father King George VI was dead. I couldn’t imagine a more bitter-sweet experience.

    Long live the Queen.
