A stunning coin celebrating the Tasmanian Devil is available from today on The Perth Mint website.

The Tasmanian Devil is Australia’s largest carnivorous marsupial. To early European settlers, the querulous creature’s black fur and bloodcurdling screeches made it a ‘devil’. Considered a nuisance, it was trapped and poisoned for more than a century.

Today, a devastating condition known as Devil Facial Tumour Disease is threatening the existence of Tasmanian Devils; in some areas more than 90% of the population has been wiped out. Link here to SAVE THE TASMANIAN DEVIL to find out about what’s being done to save this iconic animal

  1. What’s the deal with the fake Perth Mint gold bars that have been turning up?

    • Hi Bruce

Channel 7 News did a story about fake bars from China. They look like our Kangaroo Minted Bars (the genuine pieces are available from our bullion website and the telephone Bullion Desk).

Obviously we take this kind of thing very seriously and the Australian Federal Police have been formally notified.

You should only buy direct from the Mint or one of our authorised distributors. Our Kangaroo Minted Bars come in distinctive packaging – as seen in the photo. If you shine a UV light on the back of the special transparent blister, you’ll see the words ‘Seal Intact’, confirming their authenticity.

      Kind regards

    • Hi Bradley

The next coin is scheduled for the latter half of 2013. Unfortunately no design details are available yet.
