  1. Hi Blog Team,

With the issue of 2014 High Relief Set of Australian Bush Favourites PM is finishing 2014 season (of Koala Silver coins).
Let me ask a question about PM mintíng policy. Is the mintage of coins dated 2014 ending at end of calendar year (31.12.2014) or at the end of minting year which is 3rd November because of issue of new 2015 Bullion coin serious?

    Kind regards,
    Norbert

  2. See my comment before: Please replace the word serious with series. 😉

  3. Hi Blog Team,

Perth Mint has started selling the new Koala 2015 bullion coins. It is great new Koala motive compared with th one of 2014 .

This gives me the opportunity to raise a few questions about the new and about the older coins. 😉
The finish of the 2015 10oz coin ist completly silk mat on both sides. Why did you change the finish.
At least the Koala and Queens motive should stay in shining finish which gives the coin a more valuable lookout in my opinion.

Has the minting of 1/10oz silver bullion coin in presentation card started already and when will it be available?

    Kind regards,
    Norbert

    • Hi Norbert

      Thanks for the feedback.

The matt finish on the 10oz Koala involves a less complex production process, thereby allowing us to offer the coin for sale with a lower premium.

With regards the 1/10oz Koala on card, we are unable to confirm at this point whether it will go ahead in 2015.

      Kind regards

  4. I want to post a longer text with links included about possible silver Koala misstrikes but you blog system seems blocking it. What is the limitation or restriction of the software?

    • Hi Norbert

We have not heard of this issue before. If you continue to have problems, please divide your text into two or more comments with one link per post. Sorry for the inconvenience but please let us know how you get on.

  5. Do you know anythink about misstrikes from Koala silver coins?

I am aware of two possible ones. One is from a 2012 1oz HR Koala coin:
    http://www.silber.de/forum/koala-stammfaden—welche-gibts-welche-kommen-t12347-s765.html
See the thread entry dd 12.10.2014 15:45 from user “Anubis88”
Something is visible on the coins obverse inside the capsual between letter L and I of Australia.
He also as uploded a you tube video of the coin where that stain is visible between timestamp 0:32 & 0:35:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDDolyS6Dko
It looks some silver came in between the embossing stamp and the coin blank.

Another possible coin misstrike is visible here(2013 Koala bullion) in thread entry dated from user “blue-t” 23.11.2013 23:16hrs:
    http://www.silber.de/forum/koala-stammfaden—welche-gibts-welche-kommen-t12347-s390.html (scanned images)
and here (photo images) dated 21.11.2013 22:26hrs:
    http://www.silber.de/forum/koala-stammfaden—welche-gibts-welche-kommen-t12347-s375.html
The user mentioned that these two visible extension lines do not look embossed as the numbers “2013” on coin.

    Any ideas?

    Kind regards,
    Norbert

    • Hi Norbert

Thank you for submitting these images of Koala silver bullion coins.

It is virtually impossible that The Perth Mint issued the coins with these flaws. All coins undergo scrupulous quality inspection and are put in capsules by hand before they are released into the market, so even if there was a problem with the die we would have picked up the error and rejected / melted them.

      Hope this helps,

      Kind regards

      Blog Team

      • Hi again,

Your statment is not the only possible explanation.
Because it implies a manipulation of these coins by dealers or its customers. I cannot believe any dealer wants to loose its reputation by doings such a think.
But another explanation could be that the quality of some of these minted coins is not as good as it is been expected and they changed after minting process.
The user with the Koala of 2012 told me that he bought several rools of these 1oz Koala coins from one German dealer and several of these coins have this flaw. He did not open all rolles because he wanted to keep them for future purposes in sealed rolls.

Your opinon in this matter is welcome.

        Regards,

        • Hi Norbert

Thanks once again for the feedback. Some observations on your comments:

The Perth Mint would also not want to lose its reputation by issuing flawed coins and we go to enormous lengths to ensure this doesn’t happen. Judging by the lack of incidents raised by dealers and clients, we believe our quality inspection works pretty well.

When you raise the possibility that the quality of the coins “changed after minting process”, we presume you are taking about milk spot or tarnish, neither of which is represented on the coins you highlighted?

Authorised Perth Mint distributors have the experience and expertise to maintain the quality of the coins they offer for re-sale. But as you know, once they’re in the market, coins are sold by wholesalers to retailers and subsequently to investors/collectors who sell them on e-bay and by other means. The chain of ownership provides the potential opportunity at least for damage or defacement to occur.

Say someone removed a coin from its capsule and quite innocently dropped it causing the kind of damage you illustrated – you see the potential problem if they claim the coin was faulty in the first place!

Now, it’s not likely that any inspection system is 100% foolproof and although we’ve not had any other reports of the damage you’ve reported, we’d certainly be interested to know whether the roll of 2012 Koalas was purchased from one of our authorised dealers.

If you’d like to discuss this matter further, our Sales & Marketing Director Ron Currie will be at the World Money Fair in Berlin in late January and would be more than happy to have a chat then.

          Kind regards

          • Hi ,

Thank you for your detailed answer.
I really appreciate that you are interested in improving your quality of coins and the after sales through your dealer. I also realized that there are possibilities for faults or after sales worseing which is not under your control.
As a indirect customer of PM I am interested to get always and everywhere best quality of PM coins.
Therefore I try to support you in this matter and I have contacted the guy in Germany to send me more details about his purchase of his patially faulty Koala rolls.
He mentioned already that it was bought in Duesseldorf at a branch of pro Aurum which have their headquarter in Munich.

Your offer to meet Ron Currie in Berlin at 2015 World Money Fair is a great suggestion. I will check if it is feasible for me and let you know soonest.
I am interested in meeting Ron in Berlin to discuss these topics.

            Regards,
            Norbert

          • Thank you for your comments Norbert and do let us know if you will be able to attend the Berlin show.

            Best wishes

  6. Hi Blog Team,

PM has announced on forthcomming releases for 6th January the
2015 Australian Koala 1oz Silver Gilded Edition.
Presumably it will be issued with the (grey) display case, an illustrated shipper (any changes?) and the CoA.
I did not find any details yet about the maximum mintage and or issue figures.

Are you allowed to unveil these datails already?

    Kind regards,
    Norbert

    • Hello Norbert

The case and shipper are consistent in style (the shipper has new koala image). This year’s Maximum Mintage is 5,000.

      Kind regards

      Blog Team

      • Hi Blog Team,

Because of the sales figures of the past years it seems to be a consequent decision.
I appreciate that you announce the slight modification of the Koala motive. Hopefully you are continue doing this.
On the carded Koalas you did change it after first issue every two years.
That makes it a bit more attractive for a collector in my mind.
Could be a good approach also for the remaining carded and other Koala issues with shipppers.

        Kind regards,
        Norbert

  7. Hi Blog Team,

I have fond following conversation between Mr. Paul Maritz and a not mentioned staff from Perth Mint about a possible release of a 1oz silver Koala 2015 with China Privy:
    http://newcoinreleases.com/category/silver-coins-2/australian-koala-1oz-silver-bullion-coin-with-chinese-privy-mark/
The clear answer is that there will be no further 1oz silver Koala with China Privy from 2015 on. Can you confirm please.

    Kind regards,
    Norbert

  8. Hi,

Please allow another question about the 1/10 silver Koals.
On Ampex if have found that you obviously sold the 1/10 Silver Koala only in capsule: http://www.apmex.com/product/75774/2013-australia-1-10-oz-silver-koala-bu-in-capsule
Is that correct and if so how many have been sold as capsule only and as carded version?
You have reported the sales for 2013 up to 31st Dec. 2013 with 10.012 coins.
Is the final mintage and the figures for carded and capsule version available already?
And did you sale other years than 2011 and 2013 in capsule versions too?
What are these figures if you did so?

    Kind regards,
    Norbert

    • Hi Norbert

The 1/10oz Koala in capsule is an option for wholesale clients. They have been issued in all four years of the program to date: 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Sales figures will be updated in February and we will eventually split the numbers between carded and capsuled products.

      Kind regards

      Blog Team

      • Hi,

I would highly appreciate a split of the numbers in your further reports between carded and capsuled only coins.

        Kind regrads,
        Norbnert

      • If possible, please let me know which wholesalers are presumably still able to offer the capsule version of 1/10 Silver Koala 2013 and 2014 in Germany and/or Europe.

        Regards,
        Norbert

        • Hi Norbert

Only an American company – Apmex – took up the 2013 1/10 Silver Koala in capsule. No distributor has ordered the 2014 release in capsule.

          Kind regards

          Blog Team

          • Hi,

this answer is in contradiction to you previously statement regarding a 2014 capsule version:
The 1/10oz Koala in capsule is an option for wholesale clients. They have been issued in all four years of the program to date: 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Which one is the correct answer?

            Thank you and kind regards,

            Norbert

          • Hi Norbert

As you know, we offer 1/10oz silver Koalas to collectors and dealers in cards. However, in talking to our worldwide distributors, our wholesale team will accept orders for capsule-only coins. We received such orders in 2011, 2012 and 2013. To date, the option of a capsule-only 2014 coin has not been taken up by any distributor.

Hope this clears up any confusion

            Kind regards

            Blog Team

          • It partially clears confusions and creates new one.
Does it mean a wholesaler is still able to order the 2014 version in capsule only? We are in 2015). And minting for 2014 should be closed now.

            Kind regrds,
            Norbert

          • Hi Norbert

In accordance with our mintage policy, production of the 2014 1/10oz silver Koala has now ceased. We have less than 1,000 in stock, which could be ordered by wholesale clients. When the mintage is declared, rest assured that the figure will include any coin still in stock.

            Kind regards

            Blog Team

  9. Let me ask a straight forward question:

Will there be a 2015 (1oz) Koala coloured as a carded version??

I did not find anything abourt a 2015 coloured version of a Koala coin
in comlaw.gob.au and I am fearing the death of the last carded version!
Please send me your statement as soon as possible – thanks.

    Regards,
    Norbert

  10. Hi Blog Team,

After reading your responses I really feel shocked a little bit.
No 1oz carded Koala (any more) no Koala with China Privy
and presumably no 1/10oz Silver Koala ?? What is missing next, the gilded version, 5oz HR?
Is the short term interst in commerce more valuable than a long term interest
of serious coin collectors? This is really discouraging for a coin collector with a long term aspect of its hobby.
We all know understand that PM is a commecially oriented company.
It seems that you really dissappointed the interests of serious coin collectors which do not want only one get another Mickey Mouse coin or another Transformes ones or something else like that (I do not want to offend the collectors of these coins or those who are fans of these fictional figures). But I doubt that they will stay as long lasting (and paying) clientele of Perth Mint. That specific segment of interested and paying groups must getting smaller and smaller with these potential customers.
This is my point of view and I had to let you my minds know with the small hope of change only to influence your minds for the future!

    Regards,
    Norbert

  11. Hi Blog team,

If you read this before New Years Eve: I wish you a Happy New Year and iIf you get my message after 1st of January: Have a Great New Year!!

Let me ask you a new question about the Mini Gold Koala (and Roo and Kooka) 0.5 gr. 2014:
I have spotted that Australia Post is selling a limted number of 100 ea. of your before mentioned gold coins as a Minisheet and gold coin set:
    http://shop.auspost.com.au/product/koala-minisheet-and-gold-coin-set-0312299
And the Koala is also on ebay already by an Australian dealer..
Will the numbers reported in your 2014 numismatic mintage report show these coins in the cared version or will they be listed seperatly? 😉

    Kind regards,
    Norbert

    • Hi Norbert

Unfortunately we will not be able to answer your question until the return of relevant staff in 2015.

In the meantime, thank you for your kind wishes and have a great New Year yourself,

      Kind regards

      Blog Team

    • Hi Norbert

They won’t be listed separately in our public mintage figures.

      Kind regards

      Blog Team

      • Hi,

Just to understand: Is PM selling the coin(s) as the carded version to Australia Post or only in capsule? In the second case I woudln´t bother 😉

        Kind regards,
        Norbert

      • Hi Blog Team,

As a late answer of your last replay to the issue of the non carded 1/10oz silver Koalas of 2011/2012 and 2013.
For 2011 we have worked out the quantity of 6.010 non carded coins.
But do you have any figures für the years 2012 and 2013?

This is still a white spot on my Koala issue figures compilation.

        Kind regards,
        Norbert

        • Hi Norbert

There were 1,621 non-carded coins issued in 2012 and 200 non-carded coins issued in 2013.

          Kind regards

          Blog Team

          • Hi Blog Team,

            Thank you a lot!
Please keep on distinguishing the non carded sales figures from the carded ones in future.

            Kind regards,
            Norbert

          • Hi Bloge Team,

Some collectors in Germany and myself are interested in buying the non carded 1/10 Silver Koala 2015.
What would be the minimum quantity we have to order through an authorized PM representative like SC or EMK?

            Kind regards
            Norbert

          • Thank you for your inquiry Norbert.

Would you please discuss the quantity you require with your preferred distributor and our wholesale team will be delighted to consider it from there.

            Hope this helps,

            Kind regards
