Released in 1995, Walt Disney Pictures’ animated feature film Pocahontas stars the 18-year old daughter of a Native American chief who falls in love with John Smith, an English soldier, during the 17th century settlement of Jamestown.

Beautiful, free-spirited and at one with nature, Pocahontas displays wisdom beyond her years by helping to allay mistrust and conflict between her people and the settlers. Despite injured John Smith’s desire for her to return to England with him, Pocahontas decides to stay with her tribe, but comforts him with the promise that “I’ll always be with you forever”.
