The Perth Mint is delighted to announce that it will be the principal sponsor of this year’s Gallipoli Run, hosted by Athletics Western Australia.
The Perth Mint Gallipoli Run 2017 is a family friendly event and is expected to be bigger than ever with race routes in both Perth and Kalgoorlie.
An event first held in Perth in 2003, this year’s Perth Mint Gallipoli Run invites the Western Australian community to walk or run the four or eight kilometre course in honour of the Anzacs, and celebrate the spirit of mateship and camaraderie which remains their legacy.
With a history of supporting the Returned & Services League (RSLWA) and other veteran support organisations through its release of military-themed commemorative coin programs, the Mint is proud to sponsor this event.
Perth Mint Chief Executive Officer Richard Hayes said, “We attribute great importance to preserving the memory of the Anzacs through our coin programs, as we issue these on behalf of all Australians.
“The Perth Mint Gallipoli Run 2017 strengthens our commitment to their legacy and we encourage the community to join us in championing this event in the lead up to Anzac Day,” Mr Hayes continued.
Athletics WA Chief Executive Officer, Wayne Loxley, said The Perth Mint’s rich history in Western Australia combined with its range of Anzac-inspired collectables led them to approach the Mint for support.
“Athletics WA is proud to partner with The Perth Mint to present The Perth Mint Gallipoli Run 2017 as we too have a strong connection to the Anzac spirit through our ongoing association with RSLWA and Legacy WA,” said Mr Loxley.
Motivated by the increasing popularity of the Perth fixture, the run will also be held in Kalgoorlie in 2017 sharing Anzac commemorations among both local and regional communities.
RSLWA President, Peter Aspinall, said, “Participating in these community events is one of the best ways in which to honour our Anzacs and the freedoms for which they fought and continue to defend.”
Proud to have been involved with the Gallipoli Run since 2010, Legacy WA President, James Ford, is grateful for the contribution and awareness this event generates each year in recognising the significance of Anzac Day.
“I encourage all Western Australians to take part in this fantastic community event which celebrates the Anzac legacy,” said Mr Ford.
The Kalgoorlie run will be held on Sunday 26 March from 8am at Centennial Park, while the Perth event will be held on Sunday 23 April from 8am in Kings Park.
Registrations for the Kalgoorlie and Perth events are open until Thursday 23 March and Thursday 20 April, respectively.
Upon registration, all race-goers will automatically enter a competition draw for the chance to win one of 10 ANZAC Spirit 100th Anniversary 1/2oz Silver Proof Three-Coin Sets issued by The Perth Mint. Each coin superbly depicts symbolic imagery and themes from World War I, representing Australia and New Zealand’s involvement in the Gallipoli campaign of 1915.
